PhotoArtDoc Open Call: “ONE’S PLACE” ends 7 September 2024

Deadline: 7 September 2024. The PhotoArtDoc festival announces an open call for the “One’s Place” category, offering a powerful platform for visual exploration of identity and self-determination in a time of global change. This project aims to delve into the phenomenon of “one’s place” for each of us.

Throughout human history, migration has been integral to civilization. Whether forced by conflict or voluntarily seeking a fresh start, changing one’s place inevitably affects our identity and self-perception. Sometimes, even without physically moving, we may feel alienated, losing our sense of belonging. In today’s world, this theme is particularly relevant, as questions of identity and the search for one’s place arise at various scales—from family circles and local communities to the broader society and the world.

PhotoArtDoc invites photographers and artists working primarily with photography to participate in this competition, reflecting on the proposed theme. The scope for interpretation is broad, providing space for finding a unique voice and perspective on the concept of place, allowing artists to explore the internal and external aspects of displacement and belonging.

Photography should be the foundation of each project, with authors free to employ techniques such as montage, collage, and multiple exposures. Each artist may submit up to two projects.
