THIS-ABILITY PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD – until 26 October 2018

Deadline: 26 October 2018. Open to all amateur or professional photographers who can portray a snapshot of a disabled person’s life. The photographic entry should celebrate human uniqueness, people’s stories and characters, encouraging participants to see disabled persons and disability in a new way.

Challenging stereotypes surrounding disability

Disability is much more than blue badges. The term ‘disability’ is broad and encompasses both visible and non-visible conditions. Did you know that in the UK Dyslexia, Diabetes, Sight loss, Hearing loss, Stammer, Anxiety and Depression are all considered disabilities under the Equality Act 2010?

This award aims to challenge the stereotyping of disabled persons by highlighting that each of us is an individual. Through photography we celebrate our individuality, allowing others to see the disability as one of many aspects that make up a person’s unique identity.

Your photography entry

You may have a disability and want to submit an image of yourself. You may want to photograph someone you live with or work with or someone in your community. You don’t have to be a professional photographer, but make sure you take good, high-resolution shots. Each entry should consist of three themed images that portray the unique character and story of the person. The judges are looking for visual impact and originality.

Prizes:

£1,000 cash prize to winner

Finalists will have their photographs displayed at London City Hall 3-14/12/2018
