Outside Awards ends 31 July 2023
Deadline: 31 July 2023. Outside Interactive, Inc., the world’s leading creator of active lifestyle content, services, events, and experiences, encourages the next generation of filmmakers and photographers to enter the new winter-focused competition.
Photographers and filmmakers can submit entries in three categories: Thrill (chasing action), Purpose (highlighting activism), and Awe (capturing wonder).
A judging panel of pro athletes and well-known filmmakers will determine one film finalist and one photo finalist in each category, for a total of six finalists to be announced in September. Each of the six finalists will receive a $5,000 cash prize. Judges will include Academy Award-winning film director Jimmy Chin, professional skier and filmmaker Lynsey Dyer, photographer Chase Jarvis, Olympian and Warren Miller narrator, Jonny Moseley, World Champion climber Sasha DiGiulian, and longtime Warren Miller producer Josh Haskins.
The three photography finalists will be featured in Outside Magazine, and the three film finalists will be part of the upcoming Warren Miller and Get Outside tour, hitting the road from October 2023 to January 2024. At tour events, live audiences will have the chance to vote on the three film finalists to determine one overall People’s Choice grand-prize winner, who will receive an additional $10,000 cash prize. The People’s Choice winner will be announced at the end of January 2024.
Prizes:
$5,000 in prize money per category finalists (three film, three photo)
$10,000 additional prize to the final People’s Choice Grand Prize winner
Award Categories
Thrill
Submissions must relate to an experience that gives you a thrill, gets your heart beating, or creates an adrenaline rush; that surge of pure joy and energy that lives at the very edge of adventure. This category isn’t for the ones who ask why, but instead ask, why not?
Purpose
Submissions should represent how you find meaning in the winter world or connect through winter to a greater good. From protecting future snowfall to helping underrepresented communities experience the beauty of winter, demonstrate how your calling has a positive impact.
Awe
Submissions must capture the wonder of wild places, the feeling of being completely immersed in nature, or the inspiration you find outdoors. Whether it’s exuberant love for a place, a sport, or your craft, the challenge is expressing this reverence in a photo or video.
