Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize until 22 September 2020

Deadline: 22 September 2020. Entry is now open for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2020. Open to all, it is the leading international competition, and celebrates and promotes the very best in contemporary portrait photography.

This year the exhibition will be displayed online, from Tuesday 24 November 2020, in a virtual gallery that replicates the rooms of the NPG. This virtual exhibition will allow the Gallery to reach a wide international audience and ensure that the competition is able to continue as planned during the current Coronavirus pandemic. Online visitors will be able to view the portraits collectively, as well as exploring each individual work in more detail.

The photographs must be portraits. ‘Portrait’ may be interpreted in its widest sense, of ‘photography concerned with portraying people with an emphasis on their identity as individuals’.

Prizes:

The winner of the competition will receive £15,000. In addition, the judges, at their discretion, will award cash prizes to one or more shortlisted photographers.

The prize winners and exhibition selection is judged on an equal and anonymous basis. In 2019 the exhibition featured 55 portraits from 31 artists and was seen by over 42,000 people at the National Portrait Gallery.
